In Mexico we have a well-known saying “para todo mal mezcal, para todo bien también” (for every bad thing mezcal, for every good thing too). Although we always associate mezcal as a party spirit or a drink for when you are with your peers, the truth is that, in a measured dose, it also has many properties and benefits for our body. it’s like being on the most incredible diet!
Jokes aside, let us introduce you to some of the main benefits of this beverage and remember that, with measure, everything tastes better.
Several studies have shown that mezcal has properties that help to dissolve fats and therefore, to reduce triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood. It is important to mention that mezcal is referred to as the liquor that is drunk by itself, without any companion such as beer or soft drinks. That would be cheating, dude!
When have you ever felt stressed in a bar with some friends? Mezcal helps us reach a state of peace and tranquility but don’t get us wrong, we don’t want to sound like that friend who goes to LA for ayahuasca… Like all alcoholic beverages, it depresses the nervous system, but in a moderate amount, it can help you lighten the stress of a tense day. And not only that, once you taste the effects and flavors of mezcal, you will see that it is a different sensation than any other alcoholic beverage.
In heavy, copious, multi-course meals, a little mezcal will help you not to end up with a feeling of heaviness. Ethanol, among other substances in it, helps to increase the secretion of digestive enzymes and once in the stomach, our favorite liquor also works as an anti-inflammatory.
Just as we saw in its anti-stress properties, mezcal in moderation could well be called a source of natural relaxation and helps, if taken in the evening, to relax and fall asleep after a stressful day.
All these are some of the many benefits of drinking mezcal, but the most crucial thing, and we will not get bored of saying it, is that you do it in moderation. These benefits do not exist if you do not combine them with a healthful diet, a considerable intake of natural water and, of course, with physical exercise. Darse chance is also taking care of yourself and, why not, having a good time doing it.
